How long is a RWC valid for?

A Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) remains valid for a period of 2 months or 2,000kms, whichever occurs first.

Licensed car dealers are granted a validity period of 3 months or 1,000kms for a RWC, whichever comes first.

What to expect

Firstly, schedule an appointment and select a convenient time slot. When Klae is on his way, he will contact you by phone. The inspection covers various aspects of your vehicle including but not limited to lights, windscreen, brakes, leaks, suspension, wheel bearings, warning lights and tyres. The inspection includes the exterior, interior, underside, and engine compartment. A road test and brake test will also be conducted. Following a successful inspection, you will receive your roadworthy certificate via email.

In the event of a failed inspection, a 14-day period is provided for necessary repairs. It is important to arrange for a follow-up inspection before the 14-day deadline to prevent the need for a complete re-inspection.

When to book

It is advisable to book a Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) for your car when you decide to sell it. The validity of the RWC can last up to 2 months. This certificate is mandatory by law when selling a registered vehicle.

Delaying the RWC inspection until the car is sold may result in potential time constraints or unexpected issues being discovered, which could jeopardize the sale. It is recommended to address any such matters beforehand to avoid any missed opportunities for a successful sale.
